Modular 8.0m Dome Mould is Ready for Action
Months after placing the order, our 8.0m-diameter FRP dome mould has been delivered to its first project: a three-eight-metre bespoke-design dome home on a spectacular property at Coffee Camp near Nimbin in New South Wales.
This is a very exciting moment for Domeshells as the mould system is utilized for the first time to cast the hemispherical domes.
Two Trucks of Modular FRP Mould Parts
Domeshells has pioneered the use of basalt fibre rebar as the reinforcing component of its shell structure system. Basalt reinforcing bar is twice as strong as steel, weighs only a quarter as much, and does not corrode.
Combined with a revolutionary system of rigid mould forms, it promises to substantially reduce construction time while delivering a higher-quality finish.

The Coffee Camp project is unique as the first of its kind in the world to incorporate a rigid FRP mould and basalt reinforcement. The dome structure’s material system includes an external layer of lightweight perlite concrete, making it well-suited to surviving a bush fire and providing excellent insulation.
Over the coming months of the dome fabrication process, we will prove (or disprove) our expectations for breaking the speed barrier for constructing monolithic concrete shell structures.
