Modular 8.0m Dome Mould is Ready for Action

After months since placing the order, our 8.0m diameter FRP dome mould is delivered to its first project, a three, eight-meter bespoke design dome home on a spectacular property at Coffee Camp near Nimbin in New South Wales.

This is a very exciting moment for Domeshells as the mould system is utilized for the first time to cast the hemispherical domes.

Domeshells has pioneered the use of basalt fibre rebar as the reinforcing component of its shell structure system. Basalt reinforcing bar is twice the strength of steel, only a quarter of the weight and does not corrode.

Combined with a revolutionary system of rigid mould forms it promises to substantially reduce construction time in addition to delivering a higher quality finish.

The Coffee Camp project is unique in that it is the first construction project of its type in the world by incorporating the rigid FRP mould and the basalt reinforcing. The dome structures material system an external layer of lightweight perlite concrete making the system the best possible for surviving a bush fire as well as great insulation.

Over the coming months of the dome fabrication process, we will prove (or disprove) our expectations for breaking the speed barrier for constructing monolithic concrete shell structures.
