It’s Not Only The Vibe – It’s also Comfort, Safety and Fire Resistance

Hello, my name is Christopher Brown.

Twenty two years ago, after visiting several multi-dome homes, I had great inspiration and vision to develop a simple method of building concrete dome structures.

As a builder and someone fascinated with architectural design and complex engineering, I was intrigued. I already knew about the inherent structural qualities of the dome shape. It is incredibly resistant to extreme forces and loads. The space inside a dome roof resonates with harmonious energy that is impossible to achieve in a rectangular-shaped building.

This triggered in me a passion to investigate how to build dome-shaped structures.

My passion has taken me on a long journey of discovery. Designing and building domes using different methods and combinations of materials.

Designed and Developed for Extreme Conditions Including Fire – Engineered to the Building Code Australia

My vision originally was to develop a simple low-cost method of building domes that would allow people anywhere in the world to build their own dome home. A home that would survive, cyclones, hurricanes, earthquakes, fire, and flood.

In addition to simplicity and cost-effectiveness, the method I have developed complies with the “Building Code of Australia”. It is a system that can be engineered to meet any building code anywhere in the world.

In 2017 I arrived at what I believe is the simplest and most cost-effective solution for building domes. It is a method that does not require a mold and utilizes basalt fibre reinforcing combined with high strength render (mortar).

The method in its most simple form can be learned by anyone with an interest to do so using only hand tools and easily available materials.

In western countries, we use basalt reinforcing to comply with codes, but for countries that understand and utilize bamboo for building, the basalt rebar can be replaced with split bamboo. This requires slight modifications to other elements of the material system, to produce extremely strong structures still capable of withstanding earthquakes, hurricanes, and cyclones.

One of the great benefits of the material system is its ability to withstand fire. It is a superior alternative to conventional buildings in fire-prone environments. It is also ant, insect, and flood-proof. These domes can also be designed to be earth covered for significantly higher thermal properties and fire resistance.

My original motivation was also to create an alternative building system that would withstand extremes of all kinds. With the growing effects of climate change, I could foresee a time when conventional structures would not be enough to provide the necessary safety, durability, and comfort.

Having proven its viability, it is time for me to speak out about the Domeshells building system. To inform you of a new way to live, it’s benefits and its ability to meet the challenges facing our environment.

What Domeshells offers you is the benefit of decades of experience, in the form of hands-on workshops, training, manuals, design and structural engineering services.

My greatest satisfaction comes when I know that anyone living in one of our domes is enjoying comfort and security against the elements that no other types of building can offer at the price.
